Grimrock for Mobile Devices

Post by Grimwolf »

I loved playing through on my pc, but I haven't found any decent dungeon crawlers for my phone. The graphics of this game don't seem to demanding and the gameplay is awesome. Doesn't seem like it would be to difficult to port this game to be playable on a mobile device.

but it is due to use of Shaders for the lighting.

Mobile version would be amazing - but both GUI and in-game graphics would probably need artwork reduced to work fluidly:-

check out these for mobile apps that do offer something for the genre, maybe some GUI ideas in there.

Undercroft
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/undercr ... 44935?mt=8
Glorious, and FREE! Get.

Knights of Pen and Paper
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/knights ... 48038?mt=8
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .knightspp
PAID app, but nicely done. tongue firmly in cheek and perhaps a bit 'Phantasy Star' in places, but a knock-out game for both iOS and Android

Dungeon Masters
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/dungeon ... 08538?mt=8
NB - this is a very broken, controversial app - 'BETA' at best, but does include the original levels - well up until level 6 where it basically gets stuck in one of about two-dozen game-stoppers. 'Interesting', but whether this should be supported while it fails to acknowledge original creators is up for debate.

...

And while I'm here... proper retro gaming:

Absolute port, but lovingly done and all credit given to original creator throughout.
Off topic maybe, but it does show how a sensible re-appropriation of controls makes a game infinitely more accessible and playable for the device the user is on.
