Re: Pixel Shader 2.0
the problem with that is, its emulated, and emulation is both very slow and will cause issues, its not really a good solution in my books, and if the fan is very load, then its not going to work unless you want a fried laptop, the hardware test is pretty limited, the full game will be far more complex, I wouldn't risk it
Re: Pixel Shader 2.0
Well, you're probably right, so I'll have to wait for the fix.

I place my vote on a Mac version.petri wrote: should we do the map editor first, continue working on iOS/Mac version, or add the notebook mode. Plenty to do for a single programmer so we have to choose our battles wisely!
Purchasing a Windows license to play a single game just feels wrong, and my days of pirating is long gone.

Haha, in comparison, I love how in XNA the button for choosing between high-def and notebook graphics is just one click away.petri wrote:Yep, unfortunately LoG requires a pixel shader 3.0 capable graphics card. There are been some requests for a "notebook mode" which would downgrade graphics (remove normal mapping and dynamic shadows and such) and would enable the game to be run on less powerful computers. This would require quite big changes to the engine as others have pointed out. It's possible that we'll release a patch after launch but we'll have to think what is the best course of action first: e.g. should we do the map editor first, continue working on iOS/Mac version, or add the notebook mode. Plenty to do for a single programmer so we have to choose our battles wisely!

Hello!
I would like to (humbly) ask once again to make a fix for graphics with 2.0 Pixel Shader in the nearest patch. I tried anything to solve the problem but it won't work except Swift Shader, but the frame rate is around 10 in Hardware test. Besides I'd like to ask mod to move that thread into Support and Tech Discussion - it was closed when I started that thread.
Best regards,

More importantly, why are you trying to run a game on below-minimum specs and even requesting a patch / change to accomodate your dated hardware?
This really doesn't make sense to me. I really don't mean to be rude but why would you do that?

Re: Pixel Shader 2.0
That is kind of counterintuitive to making a better game. If it truly is a difficult and time consuming process, I'd rather them work towards a greater goal which would provide a better experience for those that can run the game.cezi wrote:Hello!

I would greatly be disappointed in the developers if they put their promises on the back burner. Of course if a incredibly large amount of individuals used S2.0, I wouldn't be dissapointed, but I don't believe people use laptops from ~2004 to play games. Support for age old tech can wait while other broader and more lucrative opportunities are in view.

Re: Pixel Shader 2.0
Not sure how easy eliminating all SM3 calls from the engine would be. Of course it'd be nice, but I agree it's not likely to be a wise use of time. How many people out there are trying to play games on 7+ year old hardware that actually otherwise meets the minimum system requirements?
That number has got to be awfully small.

Well, the reason for that is quite simple. I'm almost 40 years old, having wife and kids son don't "fit" a profile of typical gamer. In fact I quit playing a few years ago - except one online game called Hattrick - but it's not time consuming. I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 9100, which once was top quality, but it can't be upgraded any higher. It still has Mobility Radeon 9800 card with 256 MB memory and chip is Pentium 4 EE 3,4 Ghz. I can't afford buying a new one especially that I don't need a laptop for gaming - just for browsing Internet and writing documents. However Grimrock is something completely different. I was absolutely blastered when I found out about it. It resembles me old times of Eye of The Beholder and Ishar when I used to spent whole nights without sleep - and Red Bull was not known then, so I pre-ordered the game without looking at requirements (my fault of course). Besides I don't think that developers goal was to increase the number of new computers sold:))
Anyway, I'm not a programmer so I don't know if my request i s possible and how much time it may take to implement this patch. However there are many requests to developers, so I don't think mine is inappropriate in any way. I'm aware that preordering the game doesn't give me any rights, but I can't see anything wrong in polite asking for the patch. Of course it depends on the priority list of developers, and if they had time and wish to do it. However I would like to ask politely not to diminish my request before the developers are going to say anything in the case. I understand some of you would like to go to the next step...map editors, Mac version, translation etc......while some.....would just like to play it:)))
Best regards,
Cezi
