Just installed win 10... LOG II doesn't work

Post by kecche »

Hi all, sorry for my poor english...
I've just installed windows 10 on my computer... and I've a problem with LOG II.
What happens is that I click on play in the Steam client, a window pops up that says "Preparing to launch Legend of Grimrock" and then it's gone a few seconds later and nothing happens. No error message or anything, just doesn't load.

I made sure there wasn't a process that loaded and had no window in the task manager for it or any other games, was nothing.

Someone can help me?

I played without problems when I had win 7 installed...

Thank you

Just a shot in the dark...

Rerun the direct-x installer that comes inside LoG II _CommonRedist folder.
Rerun Virtual C++ redistributable too.

PS - Mine works fine without doing anything fancy. W10 x64

Did you do an update or a clean Windows installation?

W10 is known to have some issues specially with audio drivers. Do you have all drivers installed and up to date?

Thanks for your help.

I did an update Windows installation, not a clean one.

I tried to do your tips:

I rerun the directx installer and Virtual c++ too
My Ati radeon drivers are up to date.
I installed the last version of audio drivers
I tried to reinstall the game

nothing happen...

the first LoG works fine...

Maybe a bad installation of windows?

Thank you.

To get an idea what's up post the "grimrock.log" file located in "documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock 2".

due to Win10 i say prevent it from replacing your AMD Catalyst driver (or any other driver) and make sure your Catalyst is current
->
right-click "Start", click control panel,
choose a symbol view, click "System"
click "advanced system settings"
select "hardware" tab
click "device installation settings"
select "no let me choose" and "never install drivers"
apply and reboot

download AMD Catalyst driver for Win10 for 64 or 32 bit as needed; note that i assume your gpu is on the "supported products" list
download Display Driver Uninstaller
extract and run DDU
click "yes" to boot into Safe Mode
after reboot: select "AMD" from the dropdown-list and click "Clean and Restart"
after reboot: install your Catalyst driver
